Lot Essay

The present work depicts eminent Spanish flamenco dancer, Luisa Triana (born Luisa Garcia Garrido). Painted circa 1944, the artist beautifully captures his sitter around the age of eleven. Born in Seville, Luisa settled in America around 1938, where she became acquainted with Fechin and even took painting lessons from the artist. Fechin additionally painted at least two portraits of Luisa's father, Antonio de Triana.
