Bruce Henry was born in Sri Lanka, he was the elder son of the late G.M. Reid-Henry, an internationally known wildlife artist. His brother was equally known in wildlife art. The work is well illustrated in Bruce's book, 'Highlight the Wild-The Art of the Reid Henrys.'

The original drawings of the bird were made at a wildlife sanctuary on Holy Isle, Anglesey, where several of these magnificent owls were kept in large aviaries. The setting was inspired by the Scottish Highlands.
