The Scops Owl breeds from South-West Europe across to eastern Siberia. The Owl displays one of the finest examples of camouflage in the bird world. The name scops is derived from the Greek word for Look, or watch. In september migrating birds from Europe begin to reach Africa, spreading south into savannas. They return northwards in April. They prefer scrub and lowland woods, where they are often quite common, and feed on grasshoppers, beetles, moths, cockroaches and scorpions.
