The artist was born in Germany and came to South Africa in 1965 and studied at the Visual Arts Research Centre in Johannesburg under George Boys. In 1977 the artist and his wife settled in Zambia's Luangwa Valley, one of the richest game areas in Africa. He travels extensively throughout the game areas of Southern and Central Africa absorbing the African scenerey and wildlife.
