Donald Grant was born in Northumbria.He bagan painting at an early age , he continued to paint at every opportunity while following a varied career beginning with a long apprenticeship as a shipbuilding draughtsman and continued with Army service in Africa followed by periods as a tachnical illustrator, graphic designer and a freelance advertising artist. His paintings bare comparison to Wilhelm Kuhnert and Alfred Munnings. He has made a number of trips to Africa to gather information to use for his completed paintings.
