Lot Essay

Legend has it that Louis Cartier created the Baignoire in 1912 when he stretched out the traditional round form of the conventional wristwatch. The two parallel lines closed by two curves at either end was reminiscent of a bathtub, hence the name (Baignoire is bathtub in French).
