This atmospheric view of the rooftops of Rome was likely executed during his time as the director of the Académie de France, at the Villa Medici, from 1913 to 1921. The view appears to be taken from the villa, looking due south, towards the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument, which features in the lower left of the composition.
