Lot Essay

Compare to a very similar Wanli-marked wucai dish from the Meiyintang Collection, published in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. II, London, 1994, vol. II, no. 729. A set of five wucai dishes similarly decorated with a dragon and phoenix in the centre, but with the bajixiang on the inner well, is in the Idemitsu Museum of Art collection, illustrated in Chinese Ceramics in the Idemitsu Collection, Tokyo, 1987, no. 760.
