Lot Essay

The obverse shows a departure scene with a youthful warrior and woman. The warrior wears a crested helmet, a breastplate, an ornamented shoulder-guard, and a himation. He holds a spear in his left hand and turns his head to the right. The woman wears a long, pleated chiton beneath a himation, with her hair bound in a fillet, and she holds a phiale in her outstretched right hand. A similarly clad woman adorns the other side. A band of meander encircles below the scenes.
