NOTE:
The recipient of the work refers to the artist Huang Binhong (1865-1955). Their association can be traced back to the 1920s. In the spring of 1928, Huang Binhong co-founded the Lanman Painting Society with Zhang Shanzi, Zhang Daqian and other artists. Huang Binhong served as president of the society. Among the eight founders, Huang Binhong, at 64, was the oldest, while Zhang Daqian, at 30, was the youngest. It is for this reason that Zhang Daqian addressed Huang Binhong as “President” in this work.
