NOTE:
The present painting is dedicated to the pilot Li Tingkai, who flew over The Hump, the treacherous military airlift route from India to China that sustained the Chinese war effort in the early 1940s. He retired from the Air Force as a general before emigrating from Taiwan to San Francisco in the 1960s, where he pursued a career as a civil engineer. The painting has been cherished by the family since.
