Dedicated to Zhongkang and Madame Kong Xiao

NOTE:
The recipient of the painting refers to Yao Zhongkang (1919–2006), a Chinese military figure and diplomat from Ruicheng, Shanxi. In 1950, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata. Later, he held positions in the military. Kong Xiao was his wife, and also a diplomat. Outside their political duties, the couple were passionate collectors and maintained close ties with contemporary artists such as Huang Zhou, acquiring numerous gifted artworks.
Provenance
Acquired directly from Yao Zhongkang, the recipient of this painting, in Beijing in 1990s by the present owner.
