Provenance
(Probably) Elizabeth Stuart, Electress of the Palatinate and Queen of Bohemia, called the Winter Queen (1598-1622), consort of the Elector Palatine Frederick V, who may have taken the pictures with her when she fled Prague in 1620, subsequently returning to England on the accession of her nephew Charles II, and presumably given by Elizabeth to,
William, 1st Earl Craven (1608-1697), and by inheritance to,
Cornelia, Countess of Craven, née Martin (1877-1961), Hamstead Marshall, and by descent, until sold at the following,
Anonymous sale [The Property of a Gentleman]; Sotheby’s, London, 27 November 1963, lot 87, as ‘Giuseppe Arcimboldo’ (10,000 gns. to Reeve).
The Hon. Colin Tennant, later 3rd Baron Glenconner (1926-2010); Sotheby’s, London, 11 July 1973, lot 42, where acquired for £30,000 as 'Giuseppe Arcimboldo' by the following,
