Anatomia. Edited by Martinus Polichius de Mellerstadt. Leipzig: Martin Landsberg, [c. 1493].
Early edition of a primary anatomical text often mandated for use in medical schools until the 16th century. The present edition was edited by Martinus Polichius de Mellerstadt, who served as personal physician to Frederick the Wise of Saxony and was a professor at Leipzig, where this edition was printed, until 1502 and one of the founding members of the University of Wittenberg. Goff notes a variant with the printer and place of printing. Cf. A. Castiglioni, A History of Medicine, 1975, pp. 342-4; Goff M-874; H 11633*; Schreiber 4814; Klebs 688.6; Bod-inc M-330; BSB-Ink M-588; GW M25670; ISTC im00874000.
Chancery quarto (211 x 144mm). 39 leaves (of 40, lacking first leaf with woodcut). (Some faint marginal staining). 19th-century vellum, red leather spine label (a little soiled, newer endleaves). Provenance: early marginal annotations (lightly washed) – Royal Society of Medicine (stamps).
