Octavo (256 x 160 mm). Half-title, 363 text illustrations by Henry Vandyke Carter, 2pp. publisher’s advertisements at the end (faint spotting and finger-soiling to title and half-title, light thumb-creasing at top corner). Original brown cloth, gilt-lettered spine, untrimmed (cloth split at hinges, lightly bumped at corners and edges). Provenance: Royal Society of Medicine (library sticker on upper cover, ink stamps on title and p.1 dated 18 July 1933, bookseller’s notes in pencil on title).
