Lot Essay

Vessels of the period were often decorated with an array of thick and thin bands, dotted lozenges and meanders, as seen here. Their adornment was secondary to their function, intended to hold liquids or food. For a similar example in Tubingen, see, J. Boardman, Early Greek Vase Painting, p. 30, no. 31.
