Lot Essay

Leo Mildenberg’s collecting career was driven by a deep love of animals and a sense of personal connection with each piece he acquired. He believed every ancient animal had a voice and spirit, often saying, “It speaks to me, it speaks to you!” His passion led him to form one of the world’s most remarkable private collections of ancient animal art, which he exhibited internationally from 1981 onward, reflecting both his scholarly expertise and his affection for living beings.
