Lot Essay
Consigned by a private collector, the present Explorer II reference 16570 is a special lot as it is extremely well-preserved with all of its original accessories. Though production ceased in 2011 for the beloved model, this watch was not sold until 2019 as it was likely 'dead stock' at an authorized Rolex retailer.
Reference 16570
Launched in 1989, the reference 16570 was the third and final iteration of the unusual and beloved Explorer II model with lineage beginning in 1971 with the reference 1655. The reference 16570 was offered in both, a black and white 'Polar' dial, in which the later can be seen in the present lot and is the more desirable option.
Furthermore, the present lot is from the last year of production in which it features a desirable engraved rehaut and updated caliber 3186, making it an attractive proposition to own a modern day classic that also happens to be one of the longest produced sports models from the manufacturer.
