The cartouche-shaped Japanese red lacquer surface gilt-decorated with beasts and flora, its underside with a bird-and-flower scene, supporting two Chinese porcelain 'squirrel and grape' water-droppers mounted as inkwells before a porcelain vase and cover mounted as a pot-pourri, on scrolling foliate feet
