Lot Essay

The present work likely relates to two works entitled Julie Bonbon by Everett Shinn in the Metropolitan Museum of Art—one in the same red crayon medium circa 1906-07, as well as a 1907 pastel. Julie Bonbon was a romantic play that premiered on Broadway in 1906; Shinn was creating decorations for the nearby Belasco Theatre at this time.
