Lot Essay

Andrew Dasburg was born in Paris in 1887 and settled in the United States when he was five. He studied at the Art Students League and under Robert Henri. After visiting Taos, New Mexico, in 1918 at the suggestion of Mable Dodge Luhan, Dasburg became entranced with the region and permanently settled in New Mexico in 1933. There, he executed Cubist-inspired landscapes, such as the present work.
