The present work depicts one of the artist's favorite models, his daughter Dorothy Brémond Chase. Dorothy is featured in many works by Chase, including Dorothy (1902, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana) and My Little Daughter Dorothy (circa 1894, Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan).
