Lot Essay

Albert Delmont Smith was a renowned portrait painter who maintained a studio in New York City and East Hampton. After studying at the Art Students League, Smith later served as the director of the Heckscher Art Museum in Huntington, New York. The present work is an arresting portrait of eminent American Impressionist, Childe Hassam.
