Provenance
Maria Luisa de Rochechouart-Mortemart, née Borghese (1812-1838), and by descent to her son,
François de Rochechouart-Mortemart, Duc de Mortemart (1832-1893), and by descent to his daughter,
Jeanne de la Rochefoucauld, née De Rochechouart-Mortemart (1864-1924), who married Alexandre de la Rochefoucauld, Duc d’Estissac (1854-1930) in 1883.
(Possibly) with Bellesi, Florence.
with Charles Michel (1871-1948), Paris, 1942, as 'Bronzino', where acquired in February 1943 for FF 4,000,000 with a ‘pendant’ portrait (Paris, Louvre, inv. MNR 800), through E. Garin, Paris, by,
Karl Haberstock, Berlin and intended for Hitler’s Führermuseum, Linz (inv. no. 27414), as 'Imitator of Bronzino', deposited in the salt mines in Altaussee in Austria (Inv. no. 3910) for safekeeping.

Repatriated to the French authorities, 3 June 1948, and later sold by the Commissaire aux ventes, Colombier André, on 27 April 1950.
