Lot Essay

Tiepolo drew many studies of figures in sottinsù (seen from below). While sometimes these sketches were made as exercises, in many instances the designs were later executed in ceiling decorations.

The attribution of the sheet was supported by Antonio Morassi, as is clear from his autograph inscription of the drawing’s mount.
