Lot Essay

Burl panels were used as a decorative element to create a striking contrast between materials. This aesthetic showed a deep appreciation for the natural world and a wish to bring nature into an interior. When chosen for table tops, the abstract patterning was meant to enhance displays of antiques and works of art. A slightly larger burl-inset recessed leg table was sold at Christie’s New York, 21 March 2025, lot 812.
