AVANZINO NUCCI, AENEAS AND THE CUMAEAN SIBYL, PEN AND BROWN WASH, HEIGHTENED WITH WHITE
Drawn by a pupil of Niccolò Circignani, known as Il Pomarancio, active in Rome at the end of the sixteenth century and working in the tradition of Mannerist fresco decoration, this study has been stylistically compared with two drawings executed in the same technique: Saint Francis Supported by Two Angels (London, British Museum) and the Virgin and Child with Musical Angels (Paris, Musée du Louvre), as discussed by Jak Katalan in his article for Master Drawings (op. cit.).
