MARCANTONIO BASSETTI, TWO SAINTS IN CLOUDS, PEN AND BROWN INK, GREY WASH, HEIGHTENED WITH CREAM OIL PAINT, INSCRIBED
Preparatory study, with variations, for the decoration of the dome vault of the Chapel of the Innocents in the church of Santo Stefano, Verona. Executed between 1618 and 1621. Built during the same years for the parish priest Giulio Varalli, this important Baroque chapel was adorned with works by several prominent Veronese painters, including altarpieces by Alessandro Turchi, Pasquale Ottino and Bassetti, as well as frescoes executed by Ottino and Bassetti.
