The iconography of Saint Jerome in the Desert was treated several times by Palma. Four paintings and one drawing are known, dating from between 1590 and 1610: in the Braas collection in Venice, in the Farrington collection at Buskot Park, in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and then in a private collection in Treviso for the oil paintings, while the drawing, which has a different composition, is in the Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence (inv. 13126F; S. Mason Rinaldi, Palma il Giovane. L’Opera completa, Milan, 1984, nos. 46, 174, 309, 502). The muscular tension of Saint Jerome's naked body and the curve of his back are elements that are undeniably found in his paintings.

L’iconographie de Saint Jérôme dans le désert a été traitée à plusieurs reprises par Palma, quatre tableaux et un dessin sont connus, datables entre 1590 et 1610 : dans la collection Braas à Venise, dans la collection Farrington à Buskot Park, au musée Pouchkine de Moscou et dans une collection privée à Trévise pour les huiles tandis que le dessin, de composition différente, est au Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe aux Offices de Florence (inv. 13126F ; S. Mason Rinaldi, Palma il Giovane. L’Opera completa, Milan, 1984, n^os46, 174, 309, 502). La tension musculaire du corps nu de Saint Jérôme et la courbe de son dos sont des éléments qui se retrouvent indéniablement dans ses peintures.
