The village of Ushibori was situated at the outlet of Lake Kasumigaura, serving as the hub of Tone River water transport. Strong winds on the lake occasionally compelled boats to anchor at Ushibori and wait for the wind to die down. The large cargo boat in this design, known as Takasebune, was designed for long-distance transportation, equipped with a small covered space for cooking and sleeping.
