Lot Essay

This table showcases an early traditional style. Two drawers with tiaohuan panels fit into the high waist. A wide beading accentuates the edge of the apron and legs, which terminate in a low horsehoof foot.

The elegant lines of the tiaohuan panels on the drawers of the present table showcase intricate craftmanship, reminiscent of a huanghuali altar table from the second half of the15th century, formerly in the T.T. Tsui Collection and later sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, Glories of Buddhist Art, 29 May 2019, lot 2703 (fig.1).
