Created as a Boutique Limited Edition of only 10 pieces specifically for Asia, this superb dual time zone tourbillon is distinguished by its red ultra lightweight Quartz TPT case. The present watch is the much prized number 8⁄10 of the limited edition and is, to the best of our knowledge, the first example of this highly exclusive edition to be presented at international auction, it offers collectors perhaps the only foreseeable opportunity to obtain this outstanding Richard Mille timepiece.
Richard Mille’s RM003 followed the RM002 featuring the addition of a second time zone function. In true Richard Mille style, the second time zone function is indicated in a new and inventive way. A sapphire crystal disc carries the hour numerals and the selected hour is highlighted as it passes over a white panel at 3 o’clock. Ingeniously, the black hours are almost invisible when not over the white panel and cause no visual interference to the dial. The hour of the second time zone is advanced by the pusher in the side of the case at 9 o’clock.
The distinctive and exclusive Asia Boutique Limited Edition red case is constructed from Quartz TPT® for its extreme lightweight qualities, the distinctive layered appearance of the case is derived from this Quartz TPT (Thin Ply Technology), a relatively new and groundbreaking ultra-lightweight material that was developed by Richard Mille for use in watchmaking. Called TPT® (thin ply technology) quartz carbon, it was first used in Richard Mille’s RM27-02. Its strength and incredible lightness is unparalleled and comprised of hundreds of layers of quartz that are interspersed with layers of NTPT carbon. The layers are then fused together at 120 degrees Celsius to form a case that is almost indestructible. Also resistant to extremes of temperature and magnetism, it is near perfect for sports watches.
