Lot Essay

Reference 15202ST, which was introduced in 2012 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 5402, faithfully maintains the distinguishing features of its illustrious predecessor. The original design is honored by its ultra-thin case proportions, double baton markers at 12 o'clock, and the applied 'AP' logo at 6 o'clock. This reference has grown to be one of the most sought-after models in the Audemars Piguet catalogue.

The Royal Oak
The Royal Oak is widely regarded as a true icon, one of the most recognizable and influential wristwatch designs ever created. As the first high-end sports watch made of stainless steel, it completely changed the industry when it was first released in 1972. The watch, which was created by the renowned Gérald Genta, is distinguished by its octagonal bezel that is fastened with visible screws. It is said that this design was influenced by an old diver's helmet. With its integrated bracelet, sharp geometry, and exceptional finishing, the Royal Oak established a new category in watchmaking, blending sportiness with high watchmaking.
