Released at the turn of the millennium to commemorate the Jahrhunderttourbillon pocket watch of 1900, the Lange 1 Tourbillon represents one of A. Lange & Söhne’s most important modern achievements. The model was produced in a limited edition of 250 examples in pink gold and 150 in platinum. It was the first wristwatch in history to combine a tourbillon with a progressive power reserve indicator, twin mainspring barrels that provided a three-day power reserve, and a patented oversized date display.
The present timepiece is truly unique because of its black dial, which was made at the original owner's request as confirmed on the Certificate of Origin, making it even more remarkable. The asymmetrical Lange 1 layout is further emphasized by this eye-catching dial, giving the watch a strong, contemporary appearance. Furthermore, the timepiece comes from the collection of a seasoned collector dedicated to the pursuit of rare and complicated A. Lange & Söhne wristwatches.
Powering the watch is the Calibre L961.1 composed of 378 individual components. The tourbillon alone consists of 72 parts, with its finely crafted steel cage suspended between two diamond endstones and housing the balance wheel, balance spring, and escapement. This exceptional construction not only underscores Lange’s technical mastery but also reflects the brand’s uncompromising commitment to precision and hand-finishing at the highest level of Saxon watchmaking.
