Lot Essay

The only Patek Philippe minute repeater ever produced in a limited series, the reference 5029 stands among the true modern classics of the manufacture. The pink gold version, rarely seen at international auctions, is especially prized for its timeless refinement and subtle elegance.

Reference 5029 was designed to mark the opening of the brand's new manufacturing facility in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. It was introduced in 1997 and was only available through Patek Philippe's Geneva salon. It is one of the most exclusive modern Patek Philippe repeaters ever produced as production was strictly restricted to just 30 pieces in total, ten in each of yellow gold, platinum and pink gold, such as the present timepiece. It was also the first minute repeater to be housed in a 'Officier'-style case, which honored the company's early 20th-century wristwatch designs with its hinged back, straight screw-set lugs, and elegantly curved body. The mechanism creates a series of clear, resonant chimes that strike the hours, quarters, and minutes with remarkable clarity when the discreet slide at nine o'clock is activated.

The maker's mark JPH is proudly stamped inside the hinged back of each case, which was made by the renowned Jean-Pierre Hagmann. Powering the watch is the automatic calibre R 27 PS, one of Patek Philippe's most advanced and celebrated movements. It continues to be a masterpiece of technical and musical harmony, renowned for its exceptional acoustics and chronometer-level accuracy, a fitting homage to the company's modern manufacturing opening.
