Inspired by one of the most distinctive and instantly recognizable creations of contemporary independent watchmaking, the Joker Classic by Russian master watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin revisits his original 'Wrist Monster', first introduced at the 2017 edition of Baselworld in a limited run of 99 pieces.
The Joker's dial features big rotating 'eyeballs' with black pupils that show the hours and minutes in a very creative way. Within anthracite rings that are labeled with the hours on the left and the minutes on the right, the smooth white discs revolve. A beautifully crafted guilloché applique nose sits between the two eyes, and the tongue, which travels from right to left across the broad, smiling mouth, is a humorous representation of the moon phase. When the watch is turned over, the solid back of the original model is replaced by a sapphire crystal caseback that provides a view of the K.18-18 automatic movement.
A welcome return of a beloved horological novelty, the Joker Classic is offered in two distinct versions. One follows the original colour scheme with a white dial accented by green and red details. The other version, such as the present timepiece, has a darker grey dial with red accents, giving it a slightly more subdued but still playful personality. In the world of independent watchmaking, production is restricted to 100 pieces per version annually, guaranteeing that the model will continue to be a highly sought-after creation.
