Lot Essay

The present reference 3970EG-018, from the fourth series, stands out for having a very appealing black dial and white gold case, which gives the watch a very sophisticated and elegant appearance.

Reference 3970
The Patek Philippe reference 3970, which was introduced as the replacement for the renowned reference 2499, considered by many to be among the best perpetual calendar timepieces ever made, marked a new era in the company's history of grand complications. The reference was produced in four different series up until 2004, each of which included minor design changes.

The present example is part of the fourth and final series, of which an estimated 2,000 were produced across all metals. Since production ended, references 3970 and 3971 have solidified their status as contemporary classics and are in high demand by collectors due to their intricate technical details, well-balanced proportions, and timeless design.
