The original Octa Lune model achieved early recognition as one of F.P. Journe’s most celebrated creations, notably receiving the ‘Favourite Men’s Watch’ prize at the 2003 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. All of the maison's automatic timepieces were given the prefix 'Octa', which alludes to the remarkable autonomy of the movement and is derived from the Latin word for 'eight'.
Octa Lune
The first-generation Octa Lune had a 38 mm platinum or pink gold casing and was equipped with the rhodium-plated brass calibre 1300. In 2004, a second generation was introduced, featuring the upgraded calibre 1300.2 in solid rose gold, marking a significant evolution in both technical and material refinement.
The Octa Lune Nouvelle, as represented by the present timepiece, was introduced in 2015 and incorporates a number of important advancements. It is powered by the calibre 1300.3, equipped with a self-locking ball bearing rotor system replacing the earlier bidirectional winding with a more efficient unidirectional mechanism. The movement also has an amazing power reserve of about 120 hours and a variable inertia balance with four adjustable weights that improve accuracy and stability. These technological advancements are accompanied by aesthetic improvements, most notably the repositioned moon phase display, which is set at a slight incline and gives the Nouvelle a unique and modern character.
