Lot Essay

Affectionately nicknamed 'Batgirl' by collectors, the present timepiece is distinguished by its striking blue and black bezel paired with a Jubilee bracelet, setting it apart from its sibling, the 'Batman', which is fitted with an Oyster bracelet. This subtle yet important distinction has elevated the Batgirl to one of the most sought-after configurations within the modern Rolex GMT-Master II collection, securing its place as a cornerstone of contemporary sports watches.

The reference 116710BLNR, the first GMT-Master with a bi-color blue and black Cerachrom bezel, was first unveiled at Baselworld in 2013 and represented a major turning point for Rolex. This invention was technically difficult, requiring a patented method where the bezel is made from a single piece of blue ceramic, and the black part is then created by a very intricate treatment to produce the two-tone effect. In 2019, Rolex updated the model with the introduction of the reference 126710BLNR, such as the present timepiece.
