Among various types of birds produced by Fabergé, the flamingo is a rare model. A very similar pink agate flamingo by Henrik Wigström was acquired by Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) and is part of the Royal Collection Trust (see C. de Guitaut, Fabergé in the Royal Collection, London, 2003, p. 83, no. 79). One more comparable but slightly taller flamingo in agate and with gold legs by Henrik Wigström from the collection of Prince Radziwill was sold at Sotheby’s, London, 16 July 1959, lot 145.
