The ewer of baluster form, densely cast and chased with scrolls, floral garlands, and rocaille, the up-swung loop handle cast with trailing flowers and foliage, the hinged cover with floral finial, engraved on one side with the Yusupov coat of arms, the shaped oval basin with conforming rim of flowers and foliage, engraved under bases of ewer and basin ‘Vaillant / bijoutier orfèvre a St. Petersbourg’, the basin further marked under base with maker’s mark
The ewer, 16 ½ in. (42 cm.) high; the basin, 20 ½ in. (52 cm.) long
175 oz. 10 dwt. (5,458 gr.)

Almost certainly sold by the Soviet government to Armand Hammer in the 1920s / early 1930s.
Acquired by Matilda Geddings Gray (1885-1971) from Hammer Galleries, New York, 12 July 1950.
By descent to Matilda Gray Stream (1924-2023) and descendants.
