Lot Essay

Fresh to market and from the original owner, the present Rolex Daytona reference 6263 is well-preserved and features a desirable 'Floating Big Red' dial. It is paired with its original Rolex Guarantee, jewelry store Guarantee, and presentation box, making it a wonderful example for the astute collector to add to their collection.

Reference 6263
Introduced in approximately 1969, the Rolex Daytona reference 6263 marked a pivotal evolution in the model’s lineage, succeeding the first waterproof “Oyster” chronograph, reference 6240, while further refining its technical and aesthetic identity. Retaining the robust architecture pioneered by its predecessor, the 6263 incorporated screw-down pushers, a screw-down crown, and enhanced water resistance, affirming its position as a true sports chronograph. Most notably, it was fitted with the upgraded caliber 727, a higher-beat evolution of earlier Valjoux-based movements, offering improved precision and reliability. Produced into the late 1980s, the reference 6263 stands today as one of the most iconic and desirable enduring manual-wind Daytonas, embodying the transition from early experimental Oyster chronographs to the fully realized form of Rolex’s legendary racing watch.
