In July 2017, Patek Philippe held a special 10-day show in New York City named 'The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition' and featured some of the most important timepieces ever manufactured by the Maison. To accompany and celebrate this event, Patek Philippe unveiled a few limited edition models such as the present lot reference 5522A-001 Calatrava Pilot 'New York 2017 Special Edition'. Limited to only 600 examples for the American market, the watch quickly sold out and has become a collector favored model due to its unusual features.

Seldom seen in Patek Philippe watches, the watch has an automatic movement with sweep center seconds without the inclusion of a date. This style for unknown reasons is rarely seen in Patek Philippe watches and adds to its allure. The watch is also large and sporty featuring a 42 mm. stainless steel case. The sapphire caseback has a holographic etching that reads 'Patek Philippe New York 2017', further emphasizing the exclusivity of the watch.
