Lot Essay

Only manufactured during the first 2 years of production beginning in 1971, the present reference 1655 is classified as a 'Mark 1' example and distinguished by the "Frog Foot" coronet, straight seconds hand, and 'T SWISS T' text at the bottom. Furthermore, the watch is offered 'full set' with all of its original accessories.

The Reference 1655 'Freccione'
One of the most iconic and collector beloved vintage Rolex models, the so-called 'Freccione' (Italian for “big arrow”) Explorer II was in production from 1971 to 1985. True to Rolex’s philosophy of producing highly reliable timepieces for professionals, this model was conceived as a speleologist’s watch. The generous amount of luminous details on the dial, and the very bright orange 24-hour hand are features dedicated to these researchers who spend, at times, days underground in complete dark.
