Travels of Ali Bey in Morocco, Tripoli, Cyprus, Egypt, Arabia, Syria, and Turkey, London: for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1816, 2 volumes, 4°, FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, engraved portrait frontispiece and 90 engraved plates and maps, some folding (some browning, mainly to folding maps and some text), contemporary calf, the covers ruled in gilt (recently rebacked). [Blackmer 62: "The first edition was in French and published in Paris in 1814." Blackmer adds that the author was a Spanish traveller who, disguised as an Arab, gained access to many locations in Asia Minor and North Africa forbidden to Christians. "The plates in this work are mostly after designs by Ali Bey and include architectural plans, natural history subjects and views." (2)
