Several paintings of Emma, Lady Hamilton dancing exist. The present sheet is probably a study for Romney's oil Emma as a Bacchante, in a private collection, Sweden (see A. Kidson, The Paintings of George Romney, III, New Haven, 2015, p. 672, no. 1486, ill.).
