Dirck Wijntrack, brother-in-law of fellow painter Ludolf de Jongh, was primarily noted for his paintings of wildfowl. He frequently collaborated with landscape artists such as Jan Wijnants and Joris van der Haagen, particularly in the 1650s, producing works signed by both artists. The present canvas is among the younger Jan Wijnant's earliest dated works, many of which depict comparable brick farm buildings and cottages. His manner at the time was clearly influenced by that of his elder collaborator, prior to Wijnants's relocation to Amsterdam around 1660.
