This picture relates to a painting of Spring from a set of four seasons, rejected as Joos de Momper by Klaus Ertz and described as 'of very high quality, produced with close affinities to Josse de Momper and Jan Brueghel the Elder' (Josse de Momper der Jüngere (1564-1635): Die Gemälde mit kritischem Œuvrekatalog, Freren, 1986, p. 646, no. A157).
