Lot Essay

The present group is a companion to Le Baiser Donné, which are reductions of the well-known marble groups, commonly attributed to Houdon. The original of one of the groups was commissioned by the Duc de Chartres. A pair of earlier examples in bronze form part of the Wallace Collection. Sculpture Catalogue, p.79-80, pl.54.
