Lot Essay

It is unusual that this robe is embellished with coral beads. A Guangxu-period yellow ‘twelve symbol’ robe embellished with both coral and seed pearls is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, and is illustrated in V. Wilson, Chinese Dress, Oxford, 1986, p. 44.
